Troubleshooting
What Should I Do if the Installation Fails and I
See the "Red X"?
- Verify that the USB cable is properly connected to the PC and the HP
PSC or OfficeJet (refer to setup poster for assistance).
- Verify that the HP PSC or OfficeJet is powered up and on (the LCD
should have something in the display).
- Low-speed, low-powered USB ports could be the cause of the problem.
In some cases, USB ports on the front of the computer may not provide enough
power. Use one of the USB ports on the back of the computer, or connect a
powered USB hub to the computer and then plug the HP PSC or OfficeJet into a
powered USB hub.
- Disconnect your HP PSC or OfficeJet from the computer and uninstall
the HP PSC or OfficeJet software (go to Start/Programs or All Programs (XP)
/Hewlett-Packard/HP PSC or OfficeJet Software/Uninstall Software). Re-install
the HP PSC or OfficeJet software. Please follow the instructions on the Setup
Poster, and do not connect your HP PSC or OfficeJet until instructed to do so
by the Setup Poster.
- In some cases, there may be a conflict with another USB device
(possibly another printer). Try uninstalling the other USB device and
reinstalling the HP PSC or OfficeJet software.
Laptop USB Port
Some popular laptops can contain low-speed, low-power USB ports.
If you plug a high-speed device into a low-speed, low-power USB port, you may
see a Microsoft Windows General Protection Fault. To avoid this, do not plug
the HP PSC or OfficeJet directly into these types of laptops. Instead,
connect a powered USB hub to the laptop and then plug the HP PSC or OfficeJet
into the powered USB hub.
Installation Message Says that your
System does not Meet Minimum System Requirements
When installing the HP PSC or OfficeJet, you may receive a message
indicating that your system does not meet minimum system requirements.
Installing the HP PSC or OfficeJet on a system that does not meet the minimum
system requirements may cause the HP PSC or OfficeJet software to run very
slowly and/or behave undesirably. If you want to force the installation to
continue and bypass this system check, do the following:
- Click OK when the system requirements message appears.
- Double-click on the My Computer icon on your desktop.
- Right-click on the CD-ROM drive icon and select "Install Without
Verifying System Requirements".
Please note: If your system does not meet minimum requirements
this may either result in reduced performance from your HP PSC or OfficeJet, or
the HP PSC or OfficeJet not working at all.
"Minimum System Requirements" Message
Appears when Installing on Systems with a K6-2 Processor
When installing the HP PSC or OfficeJet on a system with a K6-2
processor, you may encounter a message indicating that your system does not
meet minimum requirements. The K6-2 processor actually does meet the minimum
system requirements. Review the minimum system
requirements listed in this document. If your system does meet these
requirements, launch Explorer and right-click the CD icon, then select "Install
Without Verifying Requirements" to install the software.
For Windows 2000 Users: Digital
Signature Not Found screen
On computers using Windows 2000, a "Digital Signature Not Found" screen
may appear. If this happens, click Yes to continue. HP has tested
this software and it is compatible with Windows 2000.
